Comment On Containing Books The Cry of the Icemark (The Icemark Chronicles #1)
All right, I am definitely out of the age range of this book and I have apparently outgrown the phase when one-dimension characters in a straightforward plot can win my heart. Now, could they ever? I'm not so sure, but the five-star reviews from young readers show that the book is appreciated and even loved.I decided to give it two stars instead of one for one simple reason: the plot and characters can earn one star at best (since there is no "no-stars" option), while I do see some potential in

A childrens novel by a debut author about a young queen who must make allies with mystical neighbors and lead her people into war with a massive and highly advanced invading army that seeks to destroy her country. I had high hopes for this book based on the synopsis, and given that it was in the adult clearance section of the bookstore, I didnt realize it was a childrens book until I started reading it. It was alright for a childrens book, again entertaining, but nothing to write home about. The

The first installment of the Icemark Chronicles by Stuart Hill is set in the fantasy land of the Icemark and follows 14-year-old Princess Thirrin Freer Strong-in-the-arm Lindenshield, Wildcat of the North. When the small land is threatened by the large, industrialized Polypontian Empire Thirrin seeks desperately to find allies to prevent her small land from being destroyed. Werewolves, vampires, witches, and much more exist in the lands around her, but convincing them to fight with her is a

I bought this book last 2010 in a book fair at my school and after reading it, set it aside. But now that I rummaged through my library and saw it again, I decided to read it. But then, after I read the first paragraph of the first page, I got hooked just like what happened to me two years ago! With this book, you'll never get bored! What I Love: -The plot and writing style! Excellent made and perfectly-written! I'm not a fan of war books, but because of this masterpiece, it made a boring war

Starting note: If you, like me stopped this book on its slow start don't give up hope for the worst...oh, wrong speech, it gets better trust me ;)The Cry of the Icemark focuses on Thirrin Freer Strong-in-the-arm Lindenshield. Wildcat of the North. (view spoiler)[ Queen of the Icemark (hide spoiler)] (which incidentally you are told in the inside flap), and her boyfriend adviser, Oskan, Witch's son,(view spoiler)[ and one of the rare Warlocks (hide spoiler)].Thirrin seems nothing more than a

I love fantasy books and this one definitely delivered on the goods. I love girls who can fight and Hill made me proud by creating such a courageous heroine in Thirrin. She is so young and yet so responsible. She is definitely a positive role model for young women. Even though she is 14, Thirrin isn't boy-crazy or pretentious. She's not even a "girly-girl". Instead, she is a mini-clone of her father. She is a warrior with a conscious. While the book was a little slow in reaching its climax, I
