Commentary In Pursuance Of Books The Cradle Will Fall
EXPERIMENTAL READ OF THE MONTH: MAY 2016Every month my friends and I go out of our comfort zones and embrace the world outside historical and contemporary romance. Thanks for accompanying me on this wild ride, sraxe!
DNF@24%.
Let's play a guessing game. Why do you think sraxe and I both DNF-ed this book?
A. Because it's predictable as hell, and we found out who the killer was early on in the book
B. Because the main character, Katie, was an invertebrate with a non-existent personality
C. Because the love interest, Richard, was a douchebag who kissed another woman later on in the book (granted, Richard and Katie weren't officially together, but hell, man, you were already putting the moves on her, you mofo)
D. Because the side characters were frustrating as fuck
E. Because the subject of cheating wasn't handled properly (the cheater even got a HEA with his mistress)
F. All of the above
Oh, you answered F?
Ding. Ding. Ding. We have a winner, folks!
Your prize is that you get to avoid wasting your 6.99 USD on this crappy story. Congratulations!

A classic Mary Higgins Clark mystery begins with an accident. Half asleep, a woman looks out her hospital window to see a man putting something in a trunk. When the light hits the parcel, she is shocked to see a dead woman's face. Could she really trust her eyes? Could it be just her imagination?Working with the prosecutor's office, she finds herself trying to solve the murder of a pregnant wife. But as time moves on, the death toll keeps increasing. Can they solve the case before even moreThis must have been a short book because I listened to the audio book in less than a day. This was a book group selection and I've never read anything by Mary Higgins Clark. I guess I was expecting a little more character detail. The story itself was really good and fast moving. The topic was interesting and engaging. The book as a whole kind of fell flat for me. I enjoyed it but it wasn't my favorite.
******WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERS*******I liked the book. However I didn't like the fact that you already knew the killer and it was just him going around doing what he pleased. I prefer the authors books where she keeps you guessing till the last minute. However don't get me wrong. I love how the author told us who the killer was first and made a story around him as to how everyone found out. I would also have liked to know more at the end with Richard and Katie

A dated (1980)Murder mystery which, despite some issues, manages to hold the reader's interest.A famous and highly regarded obstetrician/gynecologist with past, is helping desperate women to become mothers. But Katie De Maio, a local prosecutor involved in a minor traffic accident, is in the hospital and unable to sleep. In looking out the window to the parking lot below, believes she sees a man carrying the body of a woman to the trunk of his car and drive away in the middle of the night. The
Mary Higgins Clark is a the queen of suspense for a reason. This book will draw you in from the moment you read the first page as you try to figure out how the right person will be caught.
This was my first Mary Higgins Clark. She is known as the "Queen of Suspense", but I think a more fitting title would be "Godmother of Chick-Lit". If I had read this book before all of last year's selections of suspense novels featuring women in peril, I likely would have rated it higher. As it is, because she has inspired so many insipid, formulaic copycats I had the displeasure of reading, the usual, predictable and boring stakes of babies and marriages is not so gripping.A criticism I've seen
I think this was my first MHC read (may have read one or two decades ago), and I was quite disappointed. Considering it was only her fourth novel, I expected a much higher quality of prose than I received. The dialogue was stiff and lame. Characters lacked any likeability. First names were overused in dialogue to the point of annoyance in places. Knowing early on who the bad guy was eliminated most of the tension and suspense. As others have said in their reviews, if only all the players had
