Commentary Toward Books Akarnae (The Medoran Chronicles #1)

With just one step, sixteen-year-old Alexandra Jennings's world changes—literally.

Dreading her first day at a new school, Alex is stunned when she walks through a doorway and finds herself stranded in Medora, a fantasy world full of impossibilities. Desperate to return home, she learns that only a man named Professor Marselle can help her... but he's missing.

While waiting for him to reappear, Alex attends Akarnae Academy, Medora's boarding school for teenagers with extraordinary gifts. She soon starts to enjoy her bizarre new world and the friends who embrace her as one of their own, but strange things are happening at Akarnae, and Alex can't ignore her fear that something unexpected... something sinister... is looming.

An unwilling pawn in a deadly game, Alex's shoulders bear the crushing weight of an entire race's survival. Only she can save the Medorans, but what if doing so prevents her from ever returning home?

Will Alex risk her entire world—and maybe even her life—to save Medora?

Write Up Regarding Books Akarnae (The Medoran Chronicles #1)
***Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.***DNF at 24%...oopsThis is the first review book I've received that I could not finish. I really, really wanted to like this book, but it just didn't happen. My first qualm is with the writing. It is very juvenile and Alex's narration sounds more like a twelve year old's than a sixteen year old's. The portion of the book I completed in fact read much more like middle grade then young adult fiction.

DNF @ 30% While lot has (finally) shown up; I feel there is nothing here to keep me interested. It feels pretty much exactly like a Harry Potter fan-fic. They just changed the names and made the lead a girl. Im sure it would be fine to finish but I just couldnt be bothered because, for me, its just meh. Please note: I received an eARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is an honest and unbiased review.

Actual Rating: 3.5What a fun magical adventure! Akarnae is like a combination of Harry Potter and Xmen, where Alex stumbles into a magical school where everyone has powers. All of the magical elements in this novel were absolutely delightful, and my favourite part was the magical library filled with secrets, which only Alex could navigate safely as the chosen one. The snarky banter and her close friendship with Bear and Jordan was also really fun to read. While Alex was fun, snarky and hilarious,

I LOVED THIS BOOK. I had huge doubts before reading it, but they were quickly proven wrong. What's not to like about a fantastical adventure involving a mysterious library. *sigh* I feel a book hangover coming on.

Farewelling her parents was never easy and this time was worse than most. Heading into her new boarding school, sixteen-year-old Alexandra Jennings sighed with resignation as the tormenting began immediately. But when she went to the headmasters office to fulfill the enrolment, the room she entered had an instant impact it wasnt a room. How did that happen? How was she in Medora? And how was she going to return to her own world?Befriending Jordan and Bear turned out to be a savior to her sanity

**Re-read 01/19**Reading this for a second time was such a fun experience. I was a little cynical the first time around because I'm wary of HP rip-offs, but there's so much sass in this series it's hard for me not to fall in love.Alex is such a fantastic protagonist. She falls into this world of magic and takes it all in her stride, going along with it, and copping crap from her new BFFs, Jordan and Bear, whenever she starts to take the magic stuff too seriously. This is a book that's not afraid

this book was so magical and awesome!! review to come :D
